Pregnancy Scan Safety - Ultrasound scans have been in
use for over 40 years and are a very routine part of pregnancy
screenings. However, there’s been an ongoing debate regarding its use
and safety even though no studies have established whether there’s a
link between ultrasounds and birth defects.
Ultrasound scans use high-pitched sounds to monitor the well-being and
progress of an unborn child and are very handy, particularly if an
expectant mother has a history of past pregnancy complications, genetic
problems, or medical conditions.
The only possible detrimental effects of ultrasound are heating and
cavitation. Cavitation occurs when ultrasound gives rise to small
bubbles in the body, but this cannot happen during a pregnancy because
cavitation only surfaces when air is present in the region, and there is
no air in the womb.
